Welcome to King's Lynn u3a!
“Nobody has to stop learning just because they have stopped working.”
The u3a is for people who want to keep active in mind and body, enjoy socialising, and are no longer in full time employment.
Take up a new interest!
u3a Members also benefit from being able to join any of the growing number of Special Interest Groups which cover a wide variety of subjects. Some members join the u3a just to be able to participate in our friendly Groups led by knowledgeable and enthusiastic leaders.
King's Lynn is a market town and it was a significant port from medieval times onwards, trading with the Hanseatic League. It is the largest town in West Norfolk having a population of about 42,800 (2007).
KL u3a celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2021, and in 2024, with well over 500 members and a strong variety of Special Interest Groups we have something to offer to anyone looking to expand their horizons.
We draw our members mainly from King's Lynn and its surrounding villages though some come from as far as Downham Market, Hunstanton, Wisbech and Thetford.
We are a self-financing, self-learning organisation for anyone no longer in full-time employment. There is a general meeting once a month to which everyone is entitled to be present. It is here that we meet old friends and make new ones in an informal, relaxed atmosphere over tea or coffee and a biscuit, where business, social and a discussion or lecture make up the order of the meeting. It is friendly and convivial and, for many people, it is the focal point of the calendar. Everyone is welcomed and new members quickly find others with similar interests.
Prospective members may attend a maximum of two general meetings and if there is enough room, sample a special interest group. After that, they may opt to become members, sign a form and pay an annual subscription (currently £15). Those joining in the last quarter of the year will pay a special rate. If you are a current member of another u3a but wish to join any of our activity groups, you can become an Associate member at the cost of £10.00 per year.
