Welcome to Pétanque 2
The friendly way to enjoy a growing sport. Its great fun but does require practice and some elements of skill. Training is provided occasionally throughout the year normally from 1300hrs on 2nd Thursday in month - although sets are limited, boules can be provided. Pétanque 2 was formed in 2016 when Ann Smith decided to form a second group from the waiting list. It was so popular that we now have up to 24 members who play regularly on Thursday afternoons and 3 other groups have been formed. The group is now run by Bob Hindry and has successfully entered teams in the West Norfolk Pétanque league which plays on Sunday mornings (winter) and Wednesday evenings (summer). Our home ground is Knights Hill Hotel (outside the Farmers Arms) and we play as Deadly Knights Summer Knights and Winter Knights or other such prefix if we get more than one team. Our new season started on 7th March 2024 at Knights Hill with over 26 regular members registered and 22 average playing.
Playing the game…..in short: each player has 3 metal balls (boules) which they throw and try to get as near to the Jack (cochonnet) as possible. The opponent tries to beat your position or knock you from that position. The first person or team to get to 13 points wins. Come along and have a go, you'll get hooked! We meet on Thursday afternoons throughout the year: March to October - 2pm through until 4pm with a break for tea or coffee. In November, we start at 1pm and finish at 3pm. We have two seasons: Starting normally 1st week in March through until last week in November and a winter session for the brave continuing on Thursdays but starting at 1pm and finishing at 3pm. This runs from December through until the end of February. This winter group is open to all players, subject to space considerations.
We charge £2.50 for tea or coffee, but there is no other fee to pay.
We also run internal competitions with an annual awards luncheon when prizes are awarded for categories such as highest average, best attendance, most losses, most wins or even fancy bags and shiniest balls etc.
